Fred Huntress , a councillor with Albert Shire Council was the founder of the North Albert P.C.Y.C. The branch was conceived in 1975. Affiliation came on the 29th January 1976. In the beginning, the club used various locations around the Woodridge area to hold classes as we didn't have a building of our own. Woodridge High School was the venue for Gymnastics and classes were coached by Mrs. Goparenko, a Romanian gold medal gymnast in the 1936 Olympics. Trevor Harvey coached Boxing at the old Woodridge Fire Station in Garfield St . The building now houses the SES. Also using this venue were our weight trainers. There was also a swimming program which was held at the local pool by Mrs. Dot Richardson. Our first building was finally opened on 18th March 1978 by the Minister for Welfare, Mr. J Herbert. The original building consisted of an 80' x 40' hall with adjoining office, canteen, storeroom and toilets. This building is still in use today but as our club grew so did our need for space and 3 extensions have since been added. We started with 497 members and have steadily grown since then.
